Under this concept, rural landscape preservation becomes the hallmark of the program. Public access to waterways is increased. Connections to the land are one of the most tangible products of the Greenbelt Comprehensive Plan. The physical framework is based on the national concept known as "Hubs and Spokes." Under this concept, residential, commercial and business landscapes are linked to parks, preserves and open space via greenway corridors. For residents of the County, this means improved access to the outdoors for recreation, non-automobile transportation, and participation in activities that can improve health, fitness, and quality of life. Additionally, there are landscapes communities should appreciate for their ecological value and work to protect these landscapes.
