Dupre Island, Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge
Property Description
Dupre Island is a 19.28-acre barrier island located approximately 3.58 miles east of McClellanville. It is abutted by Casino Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and located approximately 0.63 miles from Jeremy Island in the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge (CRNWR). The tract fronts the ICW for about 0.21 miles and contains approximately 16 acres of tidal saltmarsh. Additionally, the tract contains 3.35 acres of upland with a few outlying upland shell middens or hammocks with the saltmarsh. The property is easily accessible by watercraft from the ICW and affords public access to water not commonly available in the rural East Cooper region. Dupre Island is located within the Sewee to Santee Landscape-Scale Conservation Area, which consists of some 191,418 acres of protected lands. It is also located within the State-designated Santee River Focus Area, one of the region’s most ecologically diverse and wildlife-rich areas.
