Deer Head Oak Park

Park Description

The iconic Deer Head Oak Park is located on the corner of Pickney and Oak Streets in the heart of McClellanville’s historic district. This parcel provides nearly an acre of land for a rural town park providing outdoor recreation and open space. The Deer Head Oak tree on the property is estimated to be over 600 years old. Its name comes from a notable bump resembling the head of a deer projecting from the trunk and sitting just below the mass of limbs extending into the canopy like deer antlers.

This historically significant land has been owned by the same family dating back to Mr. William P. Beckman, who erected McClellanville's first general store next to the Deer Head Oak shortly after the Civil War. This property has also been one of the most important open spaces for residents of the Town throughout its existence.

The park provides the public with opportunities for walking, biking, and enjoyment of scenic views of the historic district area.
